How do you become who you want to be?
Whether in business, in your relationships, in the day job you have...what's the big secret to getting from here to there?
We often think that it's some bit of magick. Or perhaps some large amount of formidable effort that gets you from here to there.
But truly, it's the small things. It's in the deciding. It's in the making of the decision to just go ahead and do what they would do. To spend the few moments deciding what that person we want to be would do - and then doing that.
Doing that even when it's hard. Even when you don't feel like it. Even when it seems near impossible. Just biting the bullet and doing it.
Sometimes, even for us who struggle more than others, the answer can be that simple. (I'll talk in a future message about how to make this simplicity feel a lot easier.)
I listened to a podcast a few weeks ago that said this in the most profound way. The featured guest said he'd realized that character traits are not "this or that". You're not kind or not kind - instead it's about the the degree of kindness you exhibit. You're not focused or unfocused - it's the degree of focus you can command. And so growth is not about all or nothing - it's in the every day moments of choosing a bit more of who we want to be, therein letting go a little more of who we don't want to be.
This last new moon in Aries/eclipse/mercury retrograde season has been giving me LOTS to think about in terms of who I'm choosing to be in every moment. Sometimes the every moment idea can be overwhelming. However in this case, it's incredibly liberating and freeing. In every moment, I get to choose to be a little bit more of the Leah I want to be. What would she do? And then I set about doing it :).
And so I ask you, what choice are you making in your every moment?
